To be honest, I am very happy to decorate my life in Malmö and Lund with cultural and academic events about the Middle East. Lastly, I attended the Direksant Gaza (cultural event about Palestine). The exhibition of graffitis from the walls of Gaza was presented in this event. Below are my reflections about the functions of graffiti in Gaza:
- It carries the political message between authorities/rulers and the local public.
- It carries the messages between political organizations for instance the PA and Hamas.
- By depicting martyrs on the walls, it transforms the temporary physical existence of people to permanent memories.
- It honors the families of martyrs and motivates population for the resistance.
-It consolidates the feeling of national unity and resistance.
Film screenings were other significant part of the event. First, I watched Slingshot Hip Hop which is about the hip hop music in Palestine. It is interesting to see how hip hop music politicizes Palestine youth. The Palestinian Life is the second film that I watched. Naked facts are bravely showed in the film, especially Israel's policy towards Palestinian agricultural life. Demolished trees etc... Erased-Wiped Off the Map was the last film that was played. Last Gaza siege of the Israeli Army was reflected with interviews and video images.
