Ingmar Karlsson, ex-Consul General of Sweden in İstanbul and my advisor in the CMES at Lund encouraged me, for which I am most grateful. I am extremely grateful to Lars-Erik Olofsson, my friend and project coordinator in the CMES helped me to
sharpen my ideas and provided technical support. I would like to express my thanks to Leif Stenberg, director of the CMES, who made the CMES at Lund an academic harbor for me.
My sincerest thanks go to my friend Pelin Ayan who answered my curious questions no matter where she was, and made constructive comments about the research. I am thankful to my genius friend, Doğa Aytuna who helped me to find appropriate visual material about the research. I am thankful to Kemal Burkay, a prominent Kurdish intellectual, for accepting my request to conduct interview. I am thankful to Nesrin Uçarlar, Charlotta Zetterval and Isabelle Cote for their support at the initial stage of the research. I would also like to thank my friends in the CMES at Lund and in Lund University. Thanks to their smiling faces, Anders Ackfeldt, Charlotta Liljedahl, Vanja Mosbach, Andrea Karlsson, Disa Kammars Larsson, Sena Sarıkoç, Simla Yavaş and Gökhan Kaya provided an efficient study environment for me in Lund.

Last but not least, I am extremely grateful to my family in Sweden. My uncle Nusret Eren and my cousins Deniz, Mehmet and Tanyel, not only supported me, but also made me feel at home. And, I am grateful to my family in Turkey who once again showed their support for my academic studies.
